Good bye 2021 and Welcome 2022!
Its time for new resolutions, new hopes and new destinations.
Lots of research is going on in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology. The highest is obviously COVID-19 related research regarding its effects on pregnancy and other aspects of women’s health.
Let’s see in this blog post what other progress is made in the field in recent years and what we can look forward to in the coming years.
Artificial intelligence in ultrasound:
Artificial intelligence is being integrated in imaging. Recently, AI algorithms claimed very good performance in diagnosing various diseases from medical images, sometimes even surpassing human-level performance. However, it is hard to imagine that AI will completely replace humans for the diagnostic procedure anytime soon. But we can expect huge improvement in the form of more accurate diagnosis and shortening the duration of the procedure.
Artificial intelligence in laparoscopic surgeries:
Laparoscopic surgeries started in 1980s and have evolved drastically. Better gadgets and high resolution scopes and cameras have led to better outcomes in recent years. Robotic arms are used to do more complicated surgeries with accuracy. Now the latest trend is to use principles of AI algorithms and Machine learning and deep learning to influence the Pre-operative decision making, intraoperative accuracy and minimising operative time and complications.
Endometriosis:
Endometriosis is a chronic condition that causes the tissues lining the uterus to grow outside the uterine cavity. Recent research has shown that people with endometriosis tend to have excess lactate in their pelvis. The drug DCA seems to lower lactate production and reduce the survival rate and growth of endometriosis growths. Researchers are also trying to figure out if nanomedicine may be as useful for treating and diagnosing endometriosis. Nanomedicine uses very, very small materials, such as nanoparticles or artificial nanobots, to help deliver medications or diagnostic imaging agents that include dyes to specific areas in the body.
More innovations are expected in field of IVF, gynaecological cancers, and many other fields.
Wishing you all a happy new year 2022.
